In July 2017 Ella Jones was awarded the Roy Turley Community Award for her contribution to our local community. Ella has been an active member of our school community through her contributions on the School Council. She has helped raise funds, listened and supported other pupils, and directed change within the school. Ella has represented our school in many events including the Country Dance Festival and Young Voices.
Within the Parkend Community, Ella is an active part of Parkend Silver band, which she says her Granny Green would be very proud of.
Ella enjoys cooking, both at home and at Cookery Club in school. Ella regularly makes cakes for elderly people in a local care home, and together with her mum, they go and visit them.
Roy Turley was an ex pupil of Parkend School, and a Governor for over 30 years. Roy sadly passed away in 2016. He worked tirelessly for the Parkend Community, supporting Parkend School, Cricket Club, Silver band and Carnival to name but a few. It was because of his love for Parkend, and his support for the local community, Roy’s family decided to create an award in his honour.
Every child in the school was asked to write about themselves and the contribution they have made to both our school and the local community. Roy’s family read through these, and together, after much deliberation, decided that Ella Jones had made an outstanding contribution to both the school and local community. Ella was presented with the Roy Turley Community Shield and given a Thank you card with a cash prize for her outstanding work.
Well done Ella! Parkend School is very proud of you!
